In the mid-19th century, baseball was in the ascendant. At that time, there were still many deficiencies in the rules, and there was also a lack of norms for the game equipment. So in that period, players were allowed to carry their own bats to swing on the court, and bats of various shapes and sizes naturally came into being.
As time went on, players found that cylindrical bats were the most favorable for hitting the ball. For the sake of hitting effect, the bats at that time were larger and heavier than those now. In 1870, baseball rules stipulated the maximum length and diameter of the bat, which also became the prototype of the bat limit.
From the thick end, the bat is divided into end, barrel, taper, grip and knob from top to bottom. In the current major league rules, the bat must be a smooth cylindrical object, made of wood, with a length of no more than 42 inches and a diameter of no more than 2.61 inches at the thickest point. Within 18 inches of the upward end of the stick, allow any substance to be applied to enhance grip strength. Unless permitted, colored bats shall not be used in professional competitions.
And the choice of baseball bats is closely related to baseball fans. If you want to play baseball well, a weighted bat can help you get twice the result with half the effort. The length and weight of the bat, the material and structure of the bat are all important considerations.
First of all, the appropriate bat length can make the grip more natural. There are three ways to determine the appropriate bat length for an individual. First, hold your hands flat and place the bat horizontally so that the tail of the bat is placed in the center of your chest. At this time, if the rod head is around the fingertip, the length is appropriate. Second, touch the end of the bat to the chest, hold the bat flat in front of one hand, and if you can hold the sweet spot of the bat naturally, the length is appropriate. Third, stand the head of the bat down on the horizontal ground, and the hands will naturally sag. If the tail of the bat is about at the center of the palm at this time, the length is appropriate.
After the length, the weight of the bat is also important. A bat of appropriate weight should enable the batter to complete multiple swings naturally. The common test method is to hold the grip with one hand flat on the side and keep the bat level. If you can't keep this action for more than half a minute, the bat may be too heavy.
